dear allen,
the island is beautiful! everyone was right! the people here are so sweet and considerate and they make you feel right at home! this would be the perfect place to raise a family. the people are modest and have moral values... it is just a tropical paradise! we'd have to learn portuguese but nothing we can't handle! love you, hun!
love lena On the tiny island of Angra Dos Reis, off the south eastern coast of Brazil, you'll find nature, clear blue waters, friendly faces, conservative people, and tropical bliss. But not everything is as perfect as it seems to be. Beauty can be decieving and is only in the eye of the beholder.
On this island, there are girls who are raped and abused, boys who have to drop out of school and work to support their family at a young age, teenagers who are fighting for acceptance, homosexuals who want their rights. Here, if you are not conservative and modest like those who own the island, you are a rebel and part of the resistance and will simply be locked away...for trying to be different.
Journey into the lives of these people who want to be different, who want to fit in, who want to be the same, and who want to simply stay alive. Some want to be able to walk down the street with their lover hand in hand but can't because they are of the same sex. Some want to be able to dress up as the opposite gender and not be ridiculed or even prosecuted against. Where the rich can not love the poor and the poor will never even amount to being rich. And some just want to be normal and follow the rules of society. Freedom is not an option-it is for those who are priveledged and have money.
